“The smiles and excitement on the faces of children who have accomplished something new are truly amazing. Engaging in conversations with them, actively listening and learning about their interests, is incredibly rewarding.”
Looking ahead, she aims to take the next step in her professional journey by pursuing the Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) onshore in New Zealand.

“New Zealand is undeniably one of the safest, most vibrant and diverse countries in the world. My overseas experience and the stories shared by my family members living in the country have solidified this belief.”
As her studies progress, Gunaratne is discovering the true value of nurturing and providing a supportive learning environment for young minds – a commitment she believes will positively shape the future generation.
“Working with children requires a lot of love and immense patience. My best advice would be to treat children with respect and always give them your undivided attention.”
She looks forward to gaining further experience in New Zealand's early childhood centres, enriching her passion for early childhood education and care.
