Chona Constancia Laureta
Name: Chona Constancia Laureta
Qualification: New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5)
Having worked in a range of different professions throughout her lifetime, Chona Constancia Laureta noticed a common trend – they all involved educating others.
“Although I am originally a computer engineer by profession, I later became an IT teacher for high school students and then a college professor. Currently, I am a baking instructor. If you sum it up – I am a teacher through and through!”
A desire to learn more about teaching in the early childhood years led Chona to enrol in the New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5) with New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC).
“My love for children and my passion for teaching inspired me to pursue study in the ECE field. I find learning about this age range to be fun, interesting and valuable. It is challenging, yet very fulfilling at the same time.
“I believe that to contribute to a child’s learning is to give something back to the world.”
For Chona, the ability to study while residing in the Philippines allows for an opportunity to embrace a ‘new normal’.
“Nowadays, online study has become the norm – resulting in increased flexibility and convenience. NZTC offers extensive student support through the eMessage and chat functions, and lecturers are very responsive and helpful in providing feedback through the discussion forums.
“For me, online learning is extremely user-friendly. I can study in my own country, yet still gain a high-quality internationally recognised qualification.”
Eventually, Chona aims to take her newfound skills and knowledge overseas.
“My studies have opened up a whole new world of teaching. Completing an NZTC qualification will allow for more opportunities to serve the community wherever I may go in the future. This will enable me to expand my horizons and explore a new environment.
“I am excited to see where my learning journey takes me.”
